about
Sheeps' second single, Sandstone Mirrors, is a flight through a loud-soft-loud landscape of Post Grunge, climaxing in a wall-of-sound eruption a la early 2000s Post Rock.
Frontperson Dean Blackwell sings with hopeless abandon of wasted enlightenment and the privatisation of social advancement, warning of the inevitable corruption of morality of those in power – all while soaring overdriven guitars and a rumbling rhythm section barrel-roll into the ironic employment of the millennial whoop that closes out this seven-and-a-half-minute epic.
Blackwell says: “Sandstone Mirrors is about the fear of making the right choice in every moment; recognising that every action has consequences, and that trying to predict the outcome of those actions is like trying to distinguish colour in the dark.”
lyrics
A tower built to reach the sky,
But denied for use to explore the Heavens.
Atop its spire it is said
that one may walk upon the air.
A spark ignites the core of me
and starts my heart.
Dark forces do no harm
to the enlightened ones.
Noises in the dark encircle with intent.
Dishonourable men passed with life’s regrets.
Apostichal truths spoke in Xenoglossia verse.
A turgor pressure burst;
A stillborn immaculate birth.
One can forget the world they know.
One can sink down to the core.
You may want more.
I’d be careful what you wish for.
And never forget why you’re here.
Do what you will with the waste
and burn what’s left.
Wheels tuned to attest
a system destined to regress.
